Useful advice and money saving tips for UK Utilities

If you are new to the UK utilities market or you want the best price because your energy bills are going through the roof, then help is at hand.

In the UK Ofgem is the regulator for Gas and Electricity markets. They make sure suppliers are acting legally and safely in the supply and sale of your energy supply. The suppliers of gas and electricity compete to offer the best price possible for the supply of gas or electricity.

This is where the consumer can often feel bemused and confused by the choices on offer. It will depend on your current usage of energy or what the expected use could be over the next year. You have to know the measurements that are used the tariffs, calculated by therms in gas and Kilowatt hours (kWh) in electricity then you need to be able to deduce from that figure the best price for gas and electricity from the many suppliers in the UK market.

Many people simply give up and choose a well-known supplier often paying up £500 extra per year to a supplier just to avoid having to calculate if it is worthwhile switching or going with a particular supplier.

At Citrus Relocation we recognise that energy wasted costs you money and is detrimental for environmental management. There are certain things you can do to reduce your energy consumption and waste costing your valuable money.

Ofgem have listed ten areas you can consider avoiding energy loss
1. If you have a hot water tank, set the cylinder thermostat to 60oC (140oF).
2. Use a timer on your central heating system. Set the heating and hot water to come on only when required.
3. Close your curtains at dusk to stop heat escaping through the windows. Check for draughts, too
4. Always turn off the light when you leave a room.
5. Don’t leave appliances on standby or laptops and mobile phones on charge unnecessarily.
6. Use energy-saving light bulbs.
7. When washing up, washing or drying by machine, try to fully load the appliance. One full load uses less energy than two half loads.
8. Try to only boil the water you need.
9. Turn taps off properly – in a single week, a dripping hot tap can waste enough hot water to fill half a bath.
10. Dry your clothes outside during nice weather
